DNS (PowerDNS)

DNS module — overview and architecture

What the uAdmin DNS module offers: PowerDNS on a separate VM, connector API, zones from the panel and sharing one DNS across multiple panels.

  1. Components

    The DNS module manages a dedicated Ubuntu 24.04 server with MariaDB backend for PowerDNS, uAdmin connector service (HMAC API) and UFW rules. The panel communicates via SSH (install/attach) and HTTPS API (zones, records, health).

  2. Primary vs. attach

    The first panel installs primary DNS (wizard). Other panels connect with an enrollment key — they do not install a new stack. The API key stays the same; firewall on the DNS VM accumulates IPs of all panels.

  3. Setup order

    The first uAdmin panel installs primary DNS with the wizard. Each additional panel connects with an enrollment key (attach) — it does not run a new stack install. Before attach ensure all panels are on the same stable release.

    Tip

    Recommendation: first panel = DNS install; all others = attach with enrollment token from the primary server.
